Wakefield finally goes on DL
2006-07-22 13:42
by Bob Timmermann

The Red Sox put Tim Wakefield on the disabled list with a stress fracture in a rib. The move is retroactive to July 18.

To replace him the Red Sox have called up Kason Gabbard from Pawtucket.

Gabbard is the first major leaguer to have either of those names. His middle name is listed as "R."

Both of those names look almost like other, more familiar names (e.g. "Jason" and "Goddard" or "Mason" and "Jabbar"). What's an almost R name he could have for the middle?

Wasn't Gabbo an evil puppet from The Simpsons?

Indeed he was. He could do the hully gully. He could imitate Vin Scully.

Or Keyser Soze from "The Usual Suspects." Maybe he really didn't pitch today.

Mr. Gabbard picked up an L in his first major league game, although he didn't pitch all that poorly.

The Red Sox were facing King Felix today and he apparently was a wee bit better than Jamie Moyer was last night.
