Welcome to the big leagues, Kevin Kouzmanoff
2006-09-02 20:31
by Bob Timmermann

Kevin Kouzmanoff, a designated hitter who had his contract purchased by Cleveland from Buffalo earlier in the day Saturday, hit a grand slam home run in his first major league at bat. Kouzmanoff hit a grand slam in the first inning off of Edinson Volquez of Texas. He was the third player to start his major league career in this fashion.

The first was Bill Duggleby of Philadelphia against New York on April 21, 1898.

Then 107 years passed until Jeremy Hermida of Florida did the same thing against the St. Louis Cardinals on August 31, 2005.
