The New York Mets were frustrated in their attempt to clinch their first NL East division title since 1988 as they were swept by the Pirates while the Phillies swept the Astros in Houston.
The Phillies will play the Cubs next while the Mets play the Marlins. If the Phillies keep winning and the Mets keep losing, the Mets have another backdoor. If the Dodgers were to lose two more games, the Mets would finish no worse than 90-72 and tied with the Phillies. Then both of those teams would make the playoffs and the Mets would be the division winner because of an 11-8 series edge over the Phillies.
Or the Mets could just beat the Marlins tomorrow night.
I find it a fascinating mental exercise. I actually aspire to being the guy in the NFL office who figures out playoff possibilities at the end of the season.
I'm a bit confused why somebody would come to The Griddle and insult the work that you're doing. Especially somebody who is usually friendly, like Daniel. Maybe I missed something. If there was some humor in there, and I'm too dense to get it, I apologize.
I, for one, appreciate the daily tallies. I love reading them.

Someone is going to have to figure out the tiebreaks.
