The Arizona Diamondbacks were eliminated from playoff contention today after the Phillies beat the Marlins 10-7. That was Philadelphia's 82nd win. The DBacks have 81 losses and cannot catch the Phillies for the wild card
Arizona Diamondbacks Playoff Hopes
Born: April 3, 2006
Died: September 24, 2006
2006 went up and down and all around for the purple, green, and white and a few other colors of the team that carried the baseball banner for the Copper State.
Arizona tried to wring the last bit of use out of some veteran players such as Luis Gonzalez, Craig Counsell, Shawn Green, Tony Clark, and a lot of bad relievers.
The Diamondbacks realized that they weren't going to win that group and Green was traded to New York, Counsell sent to the bench, Clark sent to the even deeper bench, and Gonzalez was told to not come back in 2007.
In their place, came a bunch of prospects such as Conor Jackson, Carlos Quentin, Stephen Drew, and Chris Young (not the tall Padre variety).
Eventually, the team succumbed to the effects of Grimsley's Phenomenon. Once mediocre middle reliever was served a subpoena by the Federal government and named as an HGH user, the team went into a skid. They tried to pull back out, but finally went down for good.
Visitation will be at Chase Field from September 28 through October 1. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Diamondbacks Foundation for Establishing Higher Standards For Its Players.
