The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim were eliminated from the playoffs after losing to Texas combined with an Oakland win in Seattle.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2006 Playoff Hopes
Born: April 3, 2006
Died: September 26, 2006

The two-time defending AL West champs had hopes for three in a row, but a suspect pitching staff at the beginning of the season, which included an injured Bartolo Colon and the wrong Weaver brother, got them off to a bad start. The bullpen, aside from Scot Shields and Francisco Rodriguez, was a work in progress and only showed flashes of its steady performance from 2005.

But the Angels bigger problems were with hitting (which they didn't do very well) and fielding (which they didn't go very well either). While baseball pundits like to say "Pitching and defense win championships", keep in mind the meaning of "and" in Boolean logic.

The cause of death was Extreme Baserunning Aggression Syndrome, a condition characterized by a propensity for overusing the "contact play".

Visitation will be at Angel Stadium of Anaheim through October. In lieu of flowers, the team asks that you make donations to the U.S. Board of Geographic Names.
