The New York Mets announced today that Pedro Martinez will be out for the playoffs after an examination turned up a torn tendon in his left calf muscle.
I suppose I should chime in - the mood is sad and frightened among Mets fans, but definitely with a certain amount of relief it's all settled now. It seems like Pedro hadn't won since Bastille Day - the first one - and we have done most of our damage without him anyhow. Like any team, a few unheralded folk are simply going to have to pitch the games of their lives. (Bobby Jones nods in agreement.)
And yes, I'm still a little freaked. Having a hurt Pedro come out of the bullpen to go all Cleveland Indians upside someone's lineup would have been nice. That was still about the most awesome thing I've ever seen.
And as far as the New York Times goes, the Right complains it's biased towards the Left, and the Left bitches it kisses the ass of the Right. It's gotta be doing something right.
Arrrrrrrrrrrrragh the Phillies blew it AGAIN for the second strait year, now they need to win all 3 and the Dodgers to lose all 3 to make it. failing that the best they can hope for is a 1 game playoff.
