The difference is in the cents

According to the Kyodo News Service, the Red Sox bid for Daisuke Matsuzaka was exactly $51,111,111.11.

Excatly.

The Seibu Lions will demand that the check has the $.11 written on it.

Actually, they want to be paid in cash I hear. Small, unmarked bills with non sequential serial numbers. At least one of all the state quarters that have been issued.

Mark my words; they'll appreciate in value.

The 11 cents will be paid with two of the new nickels with the new view of Jefferson's face.

Or maybe two of the Lewis & Clark nickels.

Did they have some sort of "Math Wizard" make their bid for 'em?

"I bid no more than 1/9 of 460 million."

Everybody just sits around scratching their collective heads....

"How are we ever going to know who won this thing?!?"

I guess the real question is, how on earth did Theo Epstein know that the Yankees' bid was $51,111,111.10?

It WAS the Price is Right!

"Yankees?"
"$51,111,111.10 Bob, er, I mean Bud"
"Red Sox?"
"$51,111,111.11"
"DAMMIT!"
