If Verizon cooperates, I'll try to update this from the Rose Bowl, although I'm not leaving quite yet.

Your options today (all times PT):

The College Cup from St. Louis - UCLA vs. Virginia at 9 am, UCSB vs. Wake Forest later.

Pointy footballs:
UConn at Louisville at 9 am - Cardinals can go to the BCS with a win and a Rutgers loss
Wake Forest vs Georgia Tech at Jacksonville at 10 am - The ACC championship game debuts with a head scratcher
Army vs Navy at Philadelphia at 11:30 am - The Middies are big favorites and headed to a bowl game.
Stanford at Cal at noon - The band likely won't go on the field for this one.
Louisiana Tech at New Mexico State at noon - It's on the schedule!
Air Force at TCU at 12:30 pm - It's on the schedule, too!
Fresno State at San Jose State at 1 pm - The Spartans are going to the New Mexico Bowl. Where they will play New Mexico. Tickets are available!
USC at UCLA at 1:30 pm - See below I hope
LA-Monroe at LA-Lafayette at 2 pm - The Warhawks vs. The Ragin' Cajuns!
Arkansas vs Florida at Atlanta at 3 pm - The SEC championship trophy comes with a free pass that allows the coach to complain about how hard his team had to play and how they should just skip the BCS and give him the national championship.
Troy at Florida International at 4 pm - If Troy beats the winless Golden Panthers, they win the Sun Belt! If they lose, Middle Tennessee State wins.
Rutgers at West Virginia at 4:45 pm - The Scarlet Knights go to the BCS with a win. Think about that one.
Nebraska vs Oklahoma at Kansas City at 5 pm - The winner should get Boise State in Glendale, AZ, on New Year's Day.
Colorado State at San Diego State at 5 pm - Woo hoo!
Oregon State at Hawai'i at 9 pm - The 'Bows are on ESPN2! Time to watch Colt Brennan go after David Klingler's record for touchdown passes in a season. Klinger had 54. Brennan has 51.

update We are live from the lawn in front of the Rose Bowl. The atmosphere here is dry. My chicken sandwich was good and it cost me just twenty bucks for a decent parking spot.

Update I am out near the UCLA players family lunch. Christian Taylor has a lot of relatives. I count eleven.

Update - It's warm here today. I've lunched with both USC and UCLA fans. Except for the color of the clothing they are pretty much the same.

Hey, that TCU-Air Force game is an important one! With a win, TCU gets to finish alone in second place in the Mountain West Conference. This will legitimize their berth in the Poinsettia bowl versus Northern Illinois!

Be sure to tune into the Stanford-Cal game, where the over-under is less than the point spread!

if anyone who's watching the big game could tell me how we went from

2nd-6, STAN38 12:21 J. Forsett rushed to the left for 4 yard gain

to

3rd-2, CAL46 10:23 N. Longshore passed to L. Hawkins to the right for 20 yard gain

i would appreciate it.

2006-12-02 15:13:42

come on. forsett's a good back but why are we handing it to him on every single down now? why not, say... marshawn lynch? or mix in a pass play? did longshore's arm fall off?

This is really a lucky break for everybody involved. USC gets to go to the only bowl game that matters. UCLA gets to win. If Florida comes through for us, we could still get a USC/Michigan game, which would rock. Really, just the best possible outcome for all parties.

Got back pretty quickly.

I must say that USC-UCLA, version 15, was unlike any of the other games I've seen. These games usually aren't defensive struggles.

The 22 points was the lowest since the 10-10 tie in 1989. And that game had Bret Johnson at quarterback for UCLA. He was like his brother Brad, except a lot worse.
