21-year NPB veteran Masumi Kuwata had to give up his unlikely attempt to play in MLB because he was unable to obtain a U.S. work visa in time. Kuwata had to obtain the visa for minor leaguers, which is a different type than what a Daisuke Matsuzaka would apply for.
Kuwata led the Central League with a 2.22 ERA in 2002 ("Deuces wild!"), but injuries and age have limited his playing time in recent years.
I thought it was most interesting that the minor league visas "fall under the same category as those issued to agricultural workers and other seasonal laborers."
Poor Kuwata. I really wonder what he'll do next. He's pretty much been enslaved to the Giants for the last 21 years. Orix should sign him for the PL Gakuen hype...
I always wish announcers would say "Deuces Wild!" when it's 2 balls, 2 strikes, 2 outs. I never hear it! Maybe there needs to be 2 on in a 2-2 game in the 2nd inning.
It's 2 bad I'm 2 late - about 4 hours after the last post, or 2 hours plus 2 hours.

If you clicked the link on the player's name, you can see he was born 4/1/1968.
