Habemusne Matsuzakuam?

by Bob Timmermann

White smoke appears in Newport Beach out of Scott Boras's office?

The AP is reporting that the Boston Red Sox and Daisuke Matsuzaka have reached a preliminary agreement on a contract.

Matsuzaka is on a plane headed to Boston, supposedly for a physical. Or maybe he's going to this concert or maybe this lecture.

There is much exhaling in Red Averages Nation.

If the Average Sox have signed DMZ they've really upgraded both their starting pitching and hitting, assuming they don't trade Manny Ramirez and Papelbon moves into the rotation.

Shouldn't the Evil Empire try to take down that plane?

Nice Latin, Bob. But why no "-ne" after "habemus"?

6 It's just that Latin didn't have punctuation, and it probably also lacked a tone-change like we have to indicate a question. So, unless a sentence begins with a question word like "what" or "why", then the first word would have "-ne" attached to it. So "habemus Matsuzakam" just means "We have Matsuzaka." Thank you, I'll be here all week.

I was trying to duplicate the announcement that they make for a new pope. But that's not a question when they say that, so I will make the change.

Perhaps I should get the tagline for the blog translated to Latin. See the upper right.
