Si Simmons would have had to deposit about $2500 a month every month from the time that he was 5 years old in order to have enough money to pay Barry Zito's contract in monthly installments, supposing a constant 5% interest rate from 1900 until 2013.

I got asked at work once how long it would take $1000 to turn into $1,000,000 at 5% interest.

The woman was trying to impress savings on her child.

I told her to find a better example.
