Tim was my father's nickname, so none of my brothers or I use it. A lot of male relatives in my family have used Tim due to a generation of Timmermanns giving their sons weird names in the first half of the 20th century.
Totally off topic, but this seems like the best place to bring it up. Anybody see the new "red alternate vest jerseys" being worn by next years pirates? I'm not one for fashion, but, wow, those are terrible.
Having now read the article, to a degree I sympathize with your brother. I too got one of the pay-as-you-go phones, and I still have trouble using enough minutes not to have lots left by the time the thing needs to be renewed.
A rabbit-eared tv, though, is going further back than I care to.
As to your brother, I also sport the rabbit ears, I just upgraded the AM/FM radio in my Jeep to a CD player, and just bought a cell phone late last year.

1) were the sons born in the latter half on the 19th century, and therefore were the timmermann to be named later?

Is there a Tim Timmermann?

I've got nothing against "Tims," but courtesy demands a person's own name be used when addressing him or her.

I believe he's a first cousin, two generations removed.

I wasn't around at my parents wedding back in 1956, but I'm betting that the priest called him "Vernon" then.
