Alan Schwarz of the New York Times has a story about sabermetric stats. None of them are unfamiliar to people who frequent this blog.

But what gets me is that the New York Times insists on spelling it as "O.P.S." There is also a stat called "G.P.A." (gross production average).

This goes along with "Struggling L.S.U. Upsets No. 3 Florida", yet "Marist Outlasts Siena to Clinch MAAC". Of course the MAAC champion will get a spot in the "N.C.A.A. Tournament."

Do these guys get paid extra to put in periods?

Mr. Rosenthal! Get rid of all those periods!

They better not catch wind of these statistical innovations on Inside the Dodgers. And from a 16 year old kid, no less! What can a 16 year old kid possibly teach Joe Morgan or Ned Colletti or Tommy Lasorda?!

And yes, enough with the periods already.

They also spell U.S.C. and U.C.L.A. as such. e.e cummings would be proud.

I know about that.

That really ticks me off...
