Elephants beat Donkeys at RFK

The Republicans won the Congressional Baseball Game last night at RFK Stadium, 5-2, over the Democrats. The GOP has won 32 of the last 46 games.

Little known fact: the winning party gets one extra vote in the House on a bill of their choosing.

Rep. Adam Smith of Washington was responsible for a Bill Buckner-esque, ball-through-the-legs blunder.

Insvisible Hands?

That, or he blamed the crappy quality of the infield grass on the Tragedy of the Commons...

Yes, but who won the nightcap between the Libertarians and the Greeens?

Actually, the nightcap was an over-the-line game played between the two independents in Congress.

Bernie Sanders beat Joe Lieberman, 17-14.

I wonder if they ever let Jim Bunning pitch in that game? He was 55 when he was first in the House; maybe he still had something left.

From the Washington Post:

"Over on the House side of the Capitol, the chairman of the Democratic caucus, Rahm Emanuel (Ill.), was equally unforgiving. He wants Congress to cut funding for the executive branch to reflect the fact that the Office of the Vice President is no longer part of that branch.

Cruelly, Emanuel said he would also oppose any attempt by Cheney to play in the congressional baseball game, held last night. 'He would remake the rules to his liking,' the congressman explained."

Btw Bob, your little known fact is brilliant. It could certainly boost C-SPAN's primetime ratings. Also, re 1, well played Mr. Brock.

So who umpires this game? Maybe four or six of the nine old men and women?

3 The Libertarians refused to allow the Greens to play with aluminum bats. The Greens pointed out the irony and the Libertarians forfeited.
