Neifi nailed for illegal stimulant
2007-07-06 08:08
by Bob Timmermann

Tigers infielder Neifi Perez has been suspended 25 games for testing positive for an illegal stimulant. Perez was 11 for 64 on the season and had appeared in just 33 games, so it's possible he was just trying to stay awake.

Good to see that they're cracking down on the obvious abusers.

If I remember the drug policy correctly, doesn't this mean that he already tested positive once? Not that it makes much difference, I'm just curious.

5 Are you saying that you use a drug (caffeine) to enhance your performance? For shame! What's the Toaster drug testing policy! Get George Mitchell out to LA immediately!

See, Ne!f! shouldn't be penalized, obviously the stuff he was taking wasn't performance enhancing (I shudder at the possibility that it was); and the Tigers are already being penalized by having him take up a roster spot.
