Luis Vizcaino was the winning pitcher in both of the Yankeeswins today over Tampa Bay.
Vizcaino was the first pitcher to win both ends of a doubleheader since September 21, 2002 when Terry Adams won twicefor the Phillies against Cincinnati.
The last AL pitcher to pull off the feat was Cory Bailey of Kansas City on May 26, 2002 against Texas.

Bob, over at Bronx Banter last night you said, "Don Newcombe was the last pitcher to start both ends of a doubleheader." I responded there, but in case you didn't see it:
Wilbur Wood started - and lost - both ends of a doubleheader against the Yankees on July 20, 1973. He got knocked out of the first game without getting a man out, so they brought him back to start the second. His combined line for the day: 4.1 IP, 9 H, 10 ER.
I listened to both games on the radio that day, and I remember it because it was such a sweet vindication. Wood used to destroy the Yankees - the hadn't beaten him in two years. In that time he had pitched 8 complete games in 8 starts, including 3 shutouts. His totals: 72 IP, 40 H, 10 ER, 11 BB, 44 K. 8-0, 1.25.

Thanks.
I was just extrapolating from the NY Times recent feature on Newcombe.
