The New York Mets sleep with the fishes
2007-09-30 13:42
by Bob Timmermann

The New York Mets became the 21st team eliminated from postseason contention after losing at home to Florida 8-1 and Philadelphia winning the NL East with a 6-1 win over Washington at home.

Thanks to commenter Johnny Nucleo for the coelacanth photo.

This was originally the photo designated for Colorado.

I think this is an appropriate fish for that team but I can't really articulate why...

can we refer to the coelacanth as the "chokefish"?

Great photo, great collapse, great National Pastime.

Now all I kneed is a playoff tomorrow with the Rockies advancing and I'll be a bittersweetly happy baseball fan.

You put the photo to great use. Thanks for explaining all the playoff possibilities in the previous post. I mean, organic chemistry is easy compared to figuring out that stuff.
The Griddle is awesome.

Like the coelacanth, Colorado was once thought to be extinct.

I've been following the Mets since '62, and I usually wish them well, but this season I just couldn't. Between their fans and the New York media both basically dismissing the rest of the league, especially the NL West, as inconsequential, the schadenfreude over their collapse is especially sweet.

I remember Gary Cohen mentioning earlier in the year that the Diamondbacks hadn't been really tested because they hadn't played the Mets.
