MLB conspiracy to help Rockies make the World Series?
2007-10-10 17:50
by Bob Timmermann

MLB named its umpiring crews for the two LCS.

The crew chief for the NLCS will be (insert dramatic pause):

Tim McLelland.

The other five umpires will Mark Wegner, Larry Vanover, Tom Hallion, Angel Hernandez (aka the Umpiest Ump Who Ever Umped), and Jim Joyce.

The ALCS crew chief will be Randy Marsh. He will be joined by Kerwin Danley, Brian Gorman, Paul Emmel, Gary Cederstrom, and Dana DeMuth.

MLB press release.

1 - He was the HP umpire during the Padres-Rockies tiebreaker game, and called Matt Holliday safe on the game-winning run.

ohhhhhhh yes.

well, i wouldn't say that's necessarily a good thing. mclelland may regret the call and seek to balance it out next time against the rockies.

I know Bob is kidding, but I do want to point out that McLelland is generally considered one of the best umpires, if not the best, in baseball. His greatest fault is the long delay before his strike call when umpiring behind home.

Yes, just trying to liven things up on a slow news baseball day.

I tend not to get as upset about umpires or any officials in any sport.

But I've spent much of my life watching Pac-10 football.

MLB and Fox need Boston in the World Series so badly, I wouldn't be surprised if they signed Dick Bavetta to work the ALCS.
