When the Chunichi Dragons won the Japan Series back on November 1, professional baseball in the world (or at least the parts of the world that play it well) ended.
To tide you over, here is video of the final out (of a perfect game no less) of the 2007 Japan Series.
Fascinating ! The crowd was electric I wish that we could have seen more
Did anyone else hear what sounded like English being spoken by the announcers? It's not easy to decipher because their accent stays the same.
They appeared to be referring to the count: at -7:12 , it sounds like one of them said, "Ball two"
(and indeed that was the countat the time) and then after the pitch,at 7:08, the other announcer says
"One, two"
(after a strike was thrown).
This anglophile attitude was also evident in the names on the back of the jerseys - written with our alphabet.
Imagine Tim McCarver being able to say the count in Japanese ! Or Joe Buck able to read the names on the jerseys in Japanese !
how common are perfect games in Japanese ball? i don't speak a lick of japanese, but it seems a little strange that the camera coverage seems to blend the pitcher in with the whole team (granted, worthy in a championship series clincher, but still a little odd)
Yes, they did.
I assume they switched in part because the Dodgers developed a working agreement with a different team.
It was the Kintetsu Buffaloes, but they're now the Orix Buffaloes.
I think the main thing the two teams do is that they trade coaches and the people on Orix have to listen Tommy Lasorda give a pep talk every year.

Yes, the Dodgers road uniforms have "Los Angeles" on them.
