Indians sign Japanese reliever

by Bob Timmermann

Insert hot dog eating joke here.

Older or geekier readers may insert "Star Trek" joke here.

But the man's name is Masahide Kobayashi.

Career stats in Japan.

I guess they "credit" a pitcher with a tie if he is the last pitcher in a game that ends up tied.

Which is not uncommon in Japan.

I want somebody to sign a Q and I'm not talking Dan Quisenberry.

The amusing part, to me, is that Kobamasa was mostly scouted by Nate Minchey, apparently.

(This is probably funnier if you remember when Minchey was pitching for Lotte, I guess. They were teammates for four years.)

HoHumm! a aged japanese elder relief pitchers. Everybody got excited about the BoSox rising sun success, and the Indians decided to sign a third set up man. If they keep it up the Indian starters will only need to go 4 or 5 innings in any start. I smell a Bartolo Colon free agent target!!!

I'm not sure I'd want a pitcher whose name is associated with the "no win" situation.

You know that some geek editor is gonna use it in a headline.
